CATTLE AND BUFFALO BREEDING POLICY OF THE STATE

RECOMMENDATION OF NATIONAL SEMINAR ON CATTLE AND BUFFALO BREEDING POLICY – PERSPECTIVE – INDIGENOUS NON-DESCRIPTIVE HELD ON 23RD AND 24TH DECEMBER 2004 AT GREAT EASTERN HOTEL, KOLKATA  

 

HILLY ZONE:

(Darjeeling (3 hill divisions of Darjeeling)

Cross breeding. Breeding Holstein Friesian. Farmers' choice for Jersey will also be allowed. Exotic inheritance upto 75% allowed. Inter-se mating amongst the crossbred.

 

TERAI ZONE:

(Jalpaiguri district and Siliguri Sub-Division of Darjeeling district)

Jersey or Holstein Friesian Exotic inheritance either 50% or 75%. Inter-se mating amongst the crossbred.

COSTAL ZONE:

(Part of South 24 Parganas, Part of Purba Medinipur and part of North 24 Parganas districrs)

Cross breeding using Jersey Exotic inheritance at 50% level. Upgrading with Sahiwal/Gir at certain location.

 

NEW AND OLD ALLUVIAL ZONE:

(Coochbehar, Maldah, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Nadia, part of North and South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah, Burdwan and part of Purba and Paschim Medinipur districts)

Cross breeding with Jersey for Non-Descript cows. Grading up with Sahiwal/Red Sindhi/Gir for recognized breed of Indian Cattle. Exotic Inheritance to be restored to 50%. Inter-se mating amongst the crossbred.

LATERITE ZONE:

(Birbhum, Bamkura, Purulia and Jhargram Sub-Division of Paschim Medinipur districts)

Grading up of Indigenous breeds with Tharparkar/Gir/Red Sindhi. Cross breeding using Jersey Exotic inheritance at 50% level.

 

BUFFALO BREEDING:

Grading up with high quality Murrah buffalo semen in all the zones of the State.
